MetaMatrix 5.0 SP1 has just been released and has expanded support for XQuery as a transformation and client-side language. This post summarizes support for XML and XQuery in the past and how this is changing with 5.0 SP1.

We are currently working to finish up the 5.0 SP1 release, an early access version of which is available for download today. This release contains an impressive set of features and fixes and I'm planning on highlighting some of them in the days to come. This post is about the addition of new row limit and offset capability in the MetaMatrix SQL language.

MetaMatrix Dimension is downloadable for the first time for free trial use. This is a new product from MetaMatrix, developed in Release 5 to address the needs of project developers and architects to expose integrated data through a Web services interface, as data services.

Service-oriented architectures are all the rage these days, and for good reason. The guiding principles of SOAs are based on lessons well-learned over the brief history of computing, most notably that of decoupling of system components. It is these same principles that motivate the use of data services in an SOA.

MetaMatrix products contain a federated query engine that executes SQL against multiple data sources. This entry will explore the differences between a federated query planner and a typical relational database query planner.

Apache Derby is an open source embedded database written in Java. It was formerly known as Cloudscape and was open sourced by IBM last year. For some Java projects, Derby is an ideal embedded database solution. However, there is some functionality that is not supported by Derby but can be achieved by using MetaMatrix Query in conjunction with Derby.

I am excited to talk about the simultaneous release of the MetaMatrix Dev Central web site and our brand new MetaMatrix Query product! Both have been in development for a long time and everyone at MetaMatrix has been eagerly awaiting their release.
