MetaMatrix Dimension
Introduction
MetaMatrix Dimension™ provides an intuitive, easy-to-use modeling tool for defining data services for your projects and applications. Dimension enables you to Web service-enable your legacy data sources, exposing a federated view of those sources that decouples your applications from the sources.
Modeled Web services are saved in a standard Web application archive (WAR) form, for deployment to supported Web servers. Embedded in the WAR application is the same powerful query engine that is available in the MetaMatrix Query™ and MetaMatrix Enterprise™ products.

MetaMatrix Dimension Charter
MetaMatrix Dimension is lightweight data services product that:
- Is easy to use: 30-minutes or less to expose a relational source as a Web service
- Is cost-effective, both when designing Web services and maintaining them later
- Exposes integrated views of multiple sources as Web services
- Standards-based: SOAP, XML, WSDL
- Is interoperable - follows the WS-I standard
- Was designed with the developer in mind - ideal for simple or complex projects
MetaMatrix Dimension Components
MetaMatrix Dimension has few moving parts:
- MetaMatrix Dimension Designer is an Eclipse-based graphical modeling tool for integrating multiple data sources to produce XML Views and Web services that expose those business views.
- MetaMatrix Web Services Engine processes SOAP requests to your designed Web services. This consists of the MetaMatrix query engine, a Web services framework, and the integration definitions required to define an executable Web service, packaged in a standard WAR file. The WAR file can be deployed to any standard Web server to expose your MetaMatrix data services to consuming applications.
