MetaMatrix Query

Introduction

MetaMatrix Query™ contains an enterprise-class query engine packaged as a simple Java component for you, the developer. With MetaMatrix Query, you can integrate multiple sources, and access them all using SQL and the familiar JDBC API, even if the sources themselves are not accessible in that way.

Getting Started

The trial version of MetaMatrix Query allows a developer to install, configure, and run a join between two databases in 30 minutes, given 2 pre-existing databases. Getting started with MetaMatrix Query is as easy as this:

  1. Go to MetaMatrix Dev Central download site.
  2. Register by providing minimal contact information
  3. Download MetaMatrix Query kit with trial license
  4. Install/untar the MetaMatrix Query kit to a local directory location
  5. Use the MMShell tool (see below) to define a VDB from one or more data sources
  6. Use MMShell or some other JDBC tool to connect to MetaMatrix Query through JDBC interface and execute test queries against one or multiple sources
  7. Deploy MetaMatrix Query and your VDB to your application
  8. Connect to MetaMatrix query from your application using JDBC and access integrated data
See MetaMatrix Query Quick Start for more detailed information.

Tools

MetaMatrix Query requires only a single tool: MMShell. This tool is used to design the integration components that you will deploy with MetaMatrix Query to your application. It is used to perform the following major functions:

  • Source definition – Introspects data sources to import schema and data statistics information into a model
  • VDB definition – Assembles models into a valid VDB, and generates the indexes and other information used by MetaMatrix Query at runtime.
  • Configuration – Configures MetaMatrix Query to use the VDB.
  • Query – Provides a simple query execution functionality that can be used for rapid testing of federated, multi-source queries.
See the MMShell Tool Guide for more detailed information.
