Release Overview
Release 5 continues MetaMatrix's focus on data services -- access to integrated information in multiple sources through standard APIs such as JDBC/SQL and Web Services/SOAP.
With this release, we are announcing two new products targeted to developers and projects: MetaMatrix Dimension, for Web service-enabling relational and file-based data sources; and MetaMatrix Query, the embeddable component form of our federated query engine, providing JDBC and SQL access to multiple data sources for any Java application.
These new offerings are in addition to the existing MetaMatrix Enterprise product suite, which has been a leading information integration in federal and state governments and Fortune 500 commercial organizations since its initial release in 2000.
MetaMatrix Query
MetaMatrix Query encapsulates in an embeddable component form the same query engine that is the heart of the MetaMatrix Enterprise Server™. It is targeted to Java developers who need a lightweight means to integrate data from multiple sources for their application projects. MetaMatrix Query has been componentized and packaged to be integratable into a variety of Java environments. A command line tool was developed to enable rapid definition of virtual databases, configuration of the system, and testing.

MetaMatrix Dimension
MetaMatrix Dimension is a lightweight, project-level product focused on developers who need to design and develop Web services that integrate information from multiple data sources. It was designed to have few moving parts, so that Web service-enabling data sources can be done quickly:
- MetaMatrix Dimension Designer is an Eclipse-based graphical modeling tool for integrating multiple data sources to produce XML Views and Web services that expose those business views.
- MetaMatrix Web Services Engine processes SOAP requests to your designed Web services. This consists of the MetaMatrix query engine, a Web services framework, and the integration definitions required to define an executable Web service, packaged in a standard WAR file. The WAR file can be deployed to any standard Web server to expose your MetaMatrix data services to consuming applications.
